Solenoid valve test

Overview

The risk of blockage exists for process valves and solenoid valves, which are often used in addition to positioners to guarantee that the drive is quickly depressurized. To guarantee that the solenoid valve functions, it should be tested at regular intervals.

During the solenoid valve test, do not allow the process valve drive to depressurize. If it depressurizes, there is a risk of faults that have an impact on the product quality occurring during the process or the process may even need to be shut down.

SIPART PS2 monitors the solenoid valve test that is triggered by the control system and at the same time, ensures that a valve cannot fall short of the position selected by the system operator.

In addition, SIPART PS2 provides the opportunity of operating small- or medium-sized open/close valves up without an external solenoid valve. In a 3- or 4-wire version, SIPART PS2 can be operated at 24 V just like a solenoid valve. To do that, the positioner possesses a safe depressurization function with SIL2.

Bus communication and independent alarm messages

Overview

One of the special features of SIPART PS2 is the option of communicating via PROFIBUS PA, FOUNDATION fieldbus or HART protocol. That guarantees a convenient exchange of information between the positioner and the higher-level system. The most comprehensive access to the broad diagnostic functionality of SIPART PS2 can be achieved via these communication lines. Supplementary trend values, histograms and commissioning/operating data stored in the SIPART PS2 can be clearly displayed and documented with the SIMATIC PDM tool via HART and PROFIBUS PA.

The SIPART PS2 has other features in addition to the option of transmitting the valve position by 4 – 20 mA signal or reporting via the processor that a valve has exceeded or fallen short of the position selected by the system operator. With a slot-type initiator or mechanical limit switch module, the positioner can redundantly detect the valve position independently of the electronics and transmit messages if a critical valve position is reached or the user requires reliable information on whether or not a valve is closed, for example.

Overview

Regardless of the "atmosphere" surrounding your SIPART PS2 positioner, you are well-equipped for all applications with the Makrolon®, aluminium or stainless steel housing. For especially critical applications, you can also use external actuator travel sensors.

SIPART PS2 can also be supplied in flameproof enclosure in the EExd protection. Using the three buttons (behind a flap), you can operate the device during operation without having to open the housing. Shielded by bulletproof glass, the display can be read at all times.
